Lesson
Two Important Kinetic Quantities - continued
How to manipulate IMPULSE:
Eg.1. Vertical jump
-Larger the impulse generated against the floor, greater the change in
momentum and thus higher the jump
-Impulse can be increased by increasing magnitude of applied force OR the time interval over which the force acts
In practical terms, optimize trade-off between applied force magnitude and force duration
Eg.2. Landing from a jump
-Rigid landing = large GRF over shorter time (injury potential greater)
-Landing with flexion at hip, knee, ankle increases time over which momentum changed and thus time over which landing force can be absorbed, as it reduces the magnitude of the force sustained
